Persuasive Speech

I think that I did a lot better on my persuasive speech than I did on my informative speech. This is good, it means that I have improved a lot over the quarter. One thing that I improved a lot on was my opening. I didn't start with "I did" and I had a very strong thesis statement. The second thing I improved greatly on was my transitions. I think that my speech flowed better and went smoother. I spoke clearer and louder, and my eye contact and enthusiasm was stronger.
Something I deffinitely have to work on is my use of "um" and "and." Another thing I feel I really have to work on in time for the exam is my research citations.

How- To Speech

GOOD-

• I had my materials on time.
• I did well with my paper.
• Good attention getter.
• I used a lot of visuals.
• I was decently enthusiastic.
• I brought treats!

BAD-

• I said "Uh."
• Not a good, strong conclusion.
• I didn't look at both sides of the classroom equally.

Informative Speech

I did my informative speech on Jaycee Dugard, a kidnap victim of 18 years. I think I did a good job picking a topic that interested me. I worked really hard preparing, but that, unfortunately, was not visibly shown though my speech. One thing I noticed right away was that I did not have good posture. I was slouching and my legs were crossed. Also, I forgot to spit my gum out before I went! Another thing I really have to work on is eye contact. I pretty much just looked at my note cards, or the slides on the screen. I need to work on looking around the room and making eye contact with everyone in the room. I also forgot to say a lot if the things I wanted to because I was nervous. I also didn't use my hands at all and i didn't look or sound enthusiastic. I did well with my hook, when I used a statistic, and I reworded it in my conclusion so I feel Idid okay on that. I also didn't end with "And that's about it." So that's a positive as well.
Even though I'm dreading the next speech we have to do, I have alot to work on and improve on.

Brown Bag Speech

I am thrilled to have the first speech over with. I was really surprised how nervous I was. I am usually not one to get nervous about speaking. Needless to say, I felt very good after it was over and I could relax. One thing that went wrong was that I could barely hear myself on the recording. That may or may not be because I spoke too softly. Another thing that went wrong was I started to laugh. I also did not keep good posture and i kept touching my hair. I think I did well with preparing myself, being confident and keeping the time requirement in mind. I need to improve my posture, what I do with my hands, and to keep concentrated and serious.

Cast the Play

Katherine- Roseanne will play Katherine because she pretty much already plays a shrew in her show. To add to that, noone wants to marry her...I suspect.


Petruchio- John Goodman will play Petruchio because he likes Rosanne (Katherine) and that's a good enough reason for him to play the part to me.


Bianca- Beyonce is Bianca because everyone should want Beyonce to be their wife because she is amazing, beautiful and obviously rich. This compares to Bianca because she is beautiful and rich as well.


Baptista- Baptista will be played by Bill Gates. He is ridiculously rich, just like Baptista is rich.


Lucentio- Lucentio will be played by Steve Martin because he majored in philosophy just like Lucentio wants to.

Tranio- Lindsey Lohan will be Tranio because Tranio wants a good time and I would say that Lindsey Lohan does as well.


Gremio and Hortensio- Shawn and Marlon Wayans, they guys from White Chicks, will play Gremio and Hortensio. They probably want Beyonce (Bianca) because everyone does.

IRONY- Contrary to what is expected.



This comic is ironic because the old man cannot find his GPS system. GPS's are used to help you from getting lost, and because of this, it makes it ironic.





PUN- Use if words that are alike in sound but different in meaning.










This is an example of a pun. The sign says "A lot of cars" which could either mean a [parking] lot of cars or a [number] lot of cars.







SLAPSTICK- Physical comedy; Exaggerating physical violence.
